Uploading your data in Signals is straightforward and can be done in the following three steps. Once you mastered uploading your data files directly to the system, you can also try our "Enterprise Data Connector" and "3rd Party Data Connectors". Below is an example for how to upload your own ad-hoc data file for the first time:
Uploading ad-hoc data files from your local computer on Signals is a simple drag-and-drop process. Eligible formats currently include Excel and CSV (comma separated value - a type of spreadsheet that you can save in Excel, or export from a database).
You can click on the CSV data connector (as shown on the right) to start uploading files.
Once your file is selected, you will be prompted to map the fields in your data. This is to ensure that the information you want to analyze is being processed by Signals and visualized in widgets. Fields that need to be mapped before analysis all into the following categories: Textual, Temporal, Geographical, Contributor.
The platform will automatically look for data fields that need to be mapped such as "text", and "date". Map any additional fields that you see. In the case where you want to analyze multiple textual fields together, map all of them as "text". All other structured fields will be automatically processed without mapping.
Left Column: all fields in your data
Right Column: what you have mapped.
Once you have mapped your data, you are almost done with uploading your data. Click on "Next" and "Add to dashboard" to finish uploading.
To upload multiple data files, repeat the same process. Your jobs will be lining up and when you have all your files, click on "Create New Dashboard".
