Search Bar Features
The Search Bar at the top of the dashboard has multiple functionalities, including Textual Search, Story access, and applying Filters.

Textual Search Tab
Need to search your data for specific expressions? The Textual Search feature will search (Regex match) through all textual fields in your data for any word or phrase. Once you have typed in your desired search, hit Enter on your keyboard.

You may also add multiple searches to get an even more concentrated search. These searches will have an 'AND' relationship, meaning all output from the search will contain both expressions.

Recent past searches will be stored in the search bar. Old searches may be deleted to only store fruitful phrases.

When you click into the Search Bar, you can expose all text fields through which the engine will search.

Story Tab
Any saved Stories in a dashboard are stored in your Story tab in the Search Bar. To learn more about stories, check out our Filtering Data and Stories collection.

From the Story tab, stories can also be edited or deleted.

Filter Tab
Global filters can be applied to your data from the Filter tab. More information about Filtering capabilities can be found in our Filtering Data and Stories collection.

Tips and Tricks
-
The Textual Search will search through all data in all textual fields in your dataset.
-
When would Textual Search Bar be used? This feature is best used to do a quick ad hoc search through your data. If you have a hunch there are mentions of a specific phrase, this function is the easiest way to investigate.
-
When would we use Textual Search vs. Global Filter vs. Stories? Textual Search would best be used in an ad hoc search. If your findings reveal a conversation you would like to consistently track, the next best step would be incorporating your findings in a taxonomy.
At this point, a global filter can be applied to overlap the textual search with any other relevant filters. This will help us get a more exhaustive picture of what is happening in the data. If this global filter uncovers information in the data you want to share with colleagues, or come back to later, turn your filters into a Story.
